Sunderland has an abundance of music shops - as does nearby Newcastle, with both cities providing the perfect platform for our students to get hold of some of the best stuff on the market. Below are a few retailers which we believe are capable of supplying you with top quality equipment and helpful knowledge to go with.
Alenia Music Art is an independent music retailer which stocks top notch, modern equipment and instruments at some good prices. For singers, a number of professional looking (and professional sounding) microphones are available at some VERY decent prices - whilst other instruments are in abundance. We strongly recommend you go and take a look yourself; you'll be quite surprised when you realise how cheap it can be to get set up with some nice equipment from Alenia Music Art. You can find them at 253A High Street West, Sunderland, SR1 3DH.
JG Windows are a Newcastle-based retailer with a vast array of different instruments on sale. They stock multiple instruments through each instrument family leaving you feeling a bit like a kid in a candy shop as you arrive through the doors. Electronic equipment is also stocked to the rafters with sound amplifying and effects being only some of the tech they have available here for those who want their neighbours and the rest of the street to hear their singing. You can find the store at Central Arcade, Newcastle-Upon-Tyne, NE1 5BP.
PMT Newcastle may be a few miles out of the way but the short bus or metro journey is worth it when visiting a Professional Music Technology (PMT) store. The Newcastle branch is one of 12 stores across cities in the UK and each has a standard to maintain to help the chain keep it's reputation. The Newcastle branch more than meets this standard and a combination of a ridiculous amount of quality stock and knowledgeable, friendly staff, means leaving here without an instrument or piece of kit that you've fallen in love with would make you one of only a few. You can find the store on 27-29 Dean Street, Newcastle-Upon-Tyne, NE1 1PQ.
